This is our project in Ghana where we collaborate with local African women from the village to produce Segems Shea butter organically. These women are all widows and they produce the Shea butter traditionally. The technique used here has been passed down from generation to generation.
The product coming out from here is purely Grade A unrefined raw ivory Shea butter. We collaborate with these widows to make sure that they reap the economic benefits from their hard labor. Fair Trade is the term that has been used to describe such effort and collaboration.
It is Segems goal to bring some form of mechanization to ease the laborious work of pounding the nuts. For now we are all just starting and as soon as we achieve our objective we will inform you and let you know how these women are faring.
Shea Butter Nuts
The women are coming from gathering the Shea butter nuts and are carrying them for drying and processing. It is a long way and a process to get that raw unrefined grade A Shea butter to you.

As we have started our collaboration with these beautiful and wonderful women, we are looking to see how we can cut down the hard labor when it comes to drying of the nuts and the pounding of the nuts. We believe in the near future we will be able to do that for them and us.
